Meet the Band

Formed back in the 60’s by Max Collie, the band has had fewer personnel changes than any
other professional band in existence today. A string of highly successful record albums
and countless radio and TV appearances all over the world, testify to the fact that they
are undoubtedly the leading traditional jazz band in the world today. They have appeared
at over 3000 major festivals from NEW ORLEANS and LOS ANGELES to ANTIBES and the NORTH
SEA FESTIVAL. Winners of the World Championship of New Orleans Jazz in Indianapolis USA
on their last U.S. tour against the cream of North American musicians, the band
line/up is:
MAX COLLIE – Trombone/Vocals
Bandleader, Trombonist and Organiser Max Collie left his native Melbourne, Australia in
1962 to play with the Melbourne New Orleans
Jazz band and took, shortly afterwards, the
lead of the London City Stompers. Way back in 1966 he formed his own band the "Rhythm Aces"
and with very little personnel changes, this band, right through to today, counts amongst
the European highlights in Traditional Jazz. Max celebrated his 80th birthday on 21 February 2011 with full house tours in England and Germany.

BABY JOOLS – Drums
A fantastic new young New Orleans style drummer has joined the Rhythm Aces. At age 19 years he has really learned the classic style and has lots of drive and swing. Baby Jools has been the drive behind Matt Palmer’s Millennium Jazz Band, from Nottingham, up until November 2007. He has now been launched on the International Jazz market with The Rhythm Aces, played with The Chris Barber Band and appeared on 3 Max Collie DVDs.

DENNY ILETT – Trumpet
One of England's best trumpet players as stated by Humphrey Lyttleton on BBC Radio. Denny has
played in the band before in the 1980's and is back again with his very fiery hot style. He
has recorded with the band on 5 recordings (New Orleans Mardi Gras, 20 years Together, Aces
High, Live in Stuttgart, Hot Jazz Celebration) plus 6 DVDs.

TREFOR 'FINGERS' WILLIAMS – Bass
Trefor was the original bass player for the Aces. Over the last few years he has been with Phil Mason and Chris Barber but is now back to play with the Rhythm Aces. Trefor is also well known for his incredible slap-bass playing. He playes on at least 20 of the bands recordings.

ROGER MYERSCOUGH – Clarinet
Roger, for the last twelve years has been playing with Phil Mason's New Orleans All Stars. We are delighted to have him now playing with the Rhythm Aces.

GENTLEMAN JIM MCINTOSH
– Banjo
We are pleased to welcome back Gentleman Jim to the Rhythm Aces. Jim is well known world wide as one of the best band banjo men and is on most of the recorded works of The Rhythm Aces, having been in the band for over 20 years previously. He also does a mind-boggling act with a mini harmonica in his mouth.
